Jasmine Weber of hyperallergic reports on the upcoming sale of the very first poster to advertise a public film showing. The poster, created for the screening of a series of short films by the Lumière brothers in 1895, shows an audience crowding into a hall. The piece is part of a Sotheby's auction featuring rare posters on August 28. The pre-auction estimate for the poster is about $50,000 to $60,000 USD.
